The Peppy Pete's Gourmet Salsa Story

  Peppy Pete's Gourmet Salsa is located in central Minnesota. Not exactly the salsa capital of the world, but we have these great tasting salsa recipes and finally decided to share them with you! In a nutshell Peppy Pete's Gourmet Salsa is handcrafted from fresh vegetables, fresh frozen fruits and unique spice blends that give our recipes an amazing taste unlike anything out there! 

It all started with a single salsa recipe my Mom and Dad had been canning for years. We changed it up a bit and came up with what we thought was a perfect tasting salsa recipe. We named it our Original Recipe. The response from friends and neighbors was huge. Many encouraged us to start selling our salsa because it was so unique and delicious. After years of just talking about it, we decided to dive in and make it happen. On March 26th, 2014 we were given the green light to start production! 

From there we developed Mild, Hot Habanero and Ghost Pepper made with the Bhut Jolokia Ghost Pepper for those that love intense heat. They were a hit as well!

Next we created 2 new recipes using authentic chipotle which comes from smoked jalapenos. Trinidad Scorpion delivers an intense heat and is made using the Moruga Trinidad Scorpion pepper one of the worlds hottest. And Black Bean 'n Corn is a medium heat with a wonderful rich flavor. Both recipes make a great chili and the response to this smoky/tangy recipe was huge!

From there we rolled out a new family of recipes made from fresh roasted Tomatillos, fresh Cilantro and Key Lime Juice. Roasted Jalapeno Verde is a great complement to any Mexican cuisine or on your favorite chip. Pineapple Mango is great as a glaze when grilling or a topping on cream cheese, cheesecake, yogurt, ice cream, pancakes, french toast, egg rolls, desserts etc. Mango Habanero is the hot version of this recipe. Sweet heat that equals yummy deliciousness! Wonderful additions to our salsa lineup! 

Cilantro lovers were also thrilled when we introduced two recipes that are loaded with fresh Cilantro, Key Lime Juice and have a wonderful garden-fresh taste. Carolina Reaper has the intense heat and kick of the World's Hottest Pepper and Cilantro Chutney is a medium heat that cilantro lovers just can't put down!

En Fuego is our hottest recipe! Amazing flavor and heat from a unique mix of 3 of the worlds hottest peppers and spices. If you love intense heat this is another one to try! 

Because Peppy Pete's Gourmet Salsa recipes require fresh vegetables and fresh frozen fruits it takes a little more time and expense to create the product, but it is the only way to get to our great tasting finished product. Fresh tomatoes are high in lycopene and vitamins A and C, and fresh zucchini gives our salsa a fresh garden flavor and consistency.

We met with a co-packing facility to find out if they could produce our salsa. This would have greatly helped us with our biggest problem of making enough salsa. To our dismay the facility could not produce our salsa because it "is" made from fresh vegetables. In order for the copacker to produce our products, the tomatoes used would be canned and preserved in calcium chloride and/or citric acid, which changed the fresh flavor and unique taste of our salsa. 

Most important to the finished product - Our salsa is not watered down or boiled to within an inch of its life. It is thick, fresh tasting and full of flavor the way salsa is supposed to be. We might be slightly biased, but at Peppy Pete's we feel we have created "Salsa Perfection"
